A UNIQUE LEGACY
Discover some of the most important moments so far in our rich 130-year history.
KATHARINE HEPBURN’S ADDRESS BOOK
In 1955, Katharine Hepburn ordered two address books with “London, California, New York” on the front and filled the pages with famous contacts from each locale, including Frank Sinatra, Rock Hudson and Sir Winston Churchill.
THE BOND STREET BAG
One of our very first handbags, the Bond Street bag was designed to “always hold just a little more”. Elegantly stamped with the initials A.E.G. on the front in silver foiling, this is one of the earliest examples of personalisation in our archive.
VIVIEN LEIGH’S DIARY
Celebrated English stage and film actress, Vivien Leigh was an avid user of Smythson diaries, notebooks and stationery. Her collection of books carried the personal touch of her name, always angled in the top left corner.
SIR HARDY AMIES’ DIARIES
Savile Row designer Hardy Amies had a client and close friend, Lady Hulse, who always thanked him for his work with a personalised Panama diary—a tradition she continued from the 1940s through to the 1980s.
