Merchandise in a new and saleable condition may be returned for exchange or refund within 28 days of purchase. Items must be accompanied by the original documentation. This does not affect your statutory rights.
For refunds or exchanges on in-store purchases, please refer to the details on your store receipt.
Please ensure that all Smythson.com returns sent to our Customer Service dept are handled by an insured carrier. Smythson cannot be held liable for any returned items that fail to arrive. Smythson will not be liable for any customs or duties charges incurred when returning goods.
Any goods that are returned outside of the return period, damaged or worn or sent without the original documentation will not be accepted and will be returned to the customer.
Please be advised that we are not able to accept any form of refund or exchange for personalised stationery or personalised leather products.
Gift recipients are entitled to a merchandise exchange or online gift card. Exchanges will only be offered, at the current retail price, for products in perfect condition, with the original packaging, for non-discontinued collections or lines.
This policy does not affect your statutory rights.
Extended Christmas Returns Period
Gifts purchased between Monday 18th November and Christmas Eve can be refunded or exchanged until Sunday 5th January with a valid receipt. This applies in stand alone stores and Smythson.com.
US Online Returns Process
We will accept returns from customers in the US in line with the above returns policy. Items must be returned within 28 days from the date of purchase. Unfortunately, we cannot take responsibility for any postage, custom and duties charges that your return may incur.

We are happy to accept items for return at our Madison Avenue boutique for your convenience. However, please note that we are unable to process your refund in store and all returned items will be sent to our UK Customer Services team for processing. While we'll make every effort to process your return as quickly as possible, in-store returns may take slightly longer than direct returns.
To make a return from outside the UK or EU:
- Fill out the delivery and returns form provided with your item/s
- Securely re-package the item/s you wish to return, along with your completed delivery and returns form
- Post your package using secure, trackable postage to our Customer Services team:
