Over a century ago, a charming pocket-sized writing folder – ‘The Albemarle’ – was the lady’s go-to accessory of the day. Perfectly made in ‘the finest leather with pockets for notes, visiting cards, etc.’ the simple but elegant leather lined organiser was ‘a useful gift for a lady’, as described in our 1920s Smythson brochure.
With more room than a purse to hold your daily essentials, The Albemarle offered space to slot your Panama diary, so you could organise your world while on the move and take comfort in knowing it’s adequately secure and protected. Though utility is of the utmost importance with any Smythson piece, old or new, the silver-gilt flexible mount edging and Moire silk lining were among some of the thoughtful finishing touches.
